Funeral Policy Terms & Conditions

Please read these terms carefully before enrolling in a Ts'ireletso Funeral Plan.

1. Introduction

This Funeral Policy is issued by Ts'ireletso Funeral Services (the Company) and sets out the terms, conditions, benefits, obligations and rights applicable to all members and beneficiaries enrolled under any Ts'ireletso Funeral Plan.

The purpose of this policy is to provide funeral assistance and related benefits upon the death of an insured member or registered dependant, subject to these terms and conditions.

2. Definitions

  • Member: the principal policyholder who enters into a funeral insurance contract with Ts'ireletso Funeral Services.
  • Dependant: a spouse, child, parent or extended family member registered under the policy and for whom premiums are paid.
  • Benefit: the funeral services, cash benefits and ancillary benefits provided under the selected plan.
  • Waiting Period: the period during which no benefit shall be payable for certain causes of death.
  • Premium: the monthly contribution payable by the member.

3. Eligibility for Membership

  • Entry age for principal members is 18 to 75 years.
  • Adult dependants may be covered up to age 85 years.
  • Children may be covered from birth up to 21 years and thereafter as adult dependants.
  • Membership commences upon acceptance of the application and receipt of the first premium.

4. Funeral Plans

The Company offers the following plans. Benefits applicable to each plan are those detailed in the official benefit schedule issued by the Company.

5. Waiting Periods

Natural Death

A six (6) month waiting period applies from the commencement date of membership.

Accidental Death

Benefits are payable immediately from the commencement date.

Suicide

A twelve (12) month waiting period applies from the commencement date.

Additional Dependants

A six (6) month waiting period applies to all newly added dependants.

6. Payment of Premiums

  • Premiums are payable monthly in advance.
  • Failure to pay premiums by the due date may result in suspension of benefits.
  • If premiums remain unpaid for sixty (60) consecutive days, the policy may lapse.
  • A lapsed policy may be reinstated subject to underwriting requirements and payment of outstanding premiums.

7. Claims Procedure

Claims should be reported within thirty (30) days of death. To submit a claim, the claimant must provide:

  • Original death certificate.
  • National identity document of the deceased.
  • National identity document of the claimant.
  • Proof of relationship where applicable.
  • Burial order or permit where required.
  • Any additional information requested by the Company.

8. Benefit Payment

  • Funeral services are provided directly by Ts'ireletso Funeral Services.
  • Cash benefits, vouchers and ancillary benefits are paid according to the selected plan.
  • Benefits are not transferable and may not be exchanged for cash unless specifically stated.

9. Exclusions

No benefit is payable where membership information was fraudulent, premiums are not up to date, death occurred before completion of the applicable waiting period, supporting documents are not provided, or the deceased was not registered as an insured member or dependant.

10. Policy Upgrades and Downgrades

  • Members may upgrade or downgrade plans upon written request.
  • Upgrades are subject to a six (6) month waiting period on the additional benefit amount.
  • Downgrades take effect immediately following approval.

11. Cancellation

  • The member may cancel membership by providing one month's written notice.
  • No refund is made for premiums already earned.
  • The Company may terminate membership due to fraud or material misrepresentation.

12. Complaints and Dispute Resolution

Any complaint must first be submitted to Ts'ireletso Funeral Services management for resolution. Where a dispute cannot be resolved internally, the matter may be referred to arbitration or a competent court in Lesotho.

13. General Conditions

  • The Company may amend premiums subject to reasonable notice.
  • Membership records maintained by the Company constitute prima facie evidence of coverage.
  • This policy is governed by the laws of the Kingdom of Lesotho.
